Hale from the play but still there is a gap between men and women , their mentality , emotions and way of thinking . Glaspell makes an accent on this distinction . She investigates both - social roles and mentality of both - men and women In the play there is a distinct division between the way men and women act , think , feel and behave . Sheriff Peters and County Attorney miss important trifles ' and this prevents them from discovering the true picture of the murder . They not only miss things which are evident to their wives , but also do not listen to the women who could have helped them to see things they miss . This superior attitude towards woman was peculiar to the time described and the author uses symbols and artistic details in to describe this attitude . The change in the attitude towards women , which has occurred during the recent time , became a big step forward in recognizing females and males as equal , but the change in their way of thinking and feeling is still relevant today . In this play two women accompany their husbands to the house where the murder was committed . The first scene is set in the messy kitchen , where all the characters talk about the murder . From their talk we get the first background information and can come up with the first dramatic questions . So , the first setting of the scene contains very important information , the meaning of which spectators will understand later Some part of information which is important for the further development of action we get from the first dialog in the kitchen . It is interesting that with the development of the subject we understand that dirty kitchen , together with other important details , give us more information than the first dialog at the beginning of the play . With the help of the background information the author manages to switch our sympathy from the victim of the murder...
