striking about the story - other than the mystery of the murder 's identity itself - is that the methods which the male characters and the female characters use in observing and making conclusions to the mystery based on the evidence they see around the house are starkly disparate . Further , when the evidence presents the women with an undeniable conclusion as to the murderer 's identity , they reveal how differently they view justice , valuing ethics over morality as opposed to their male counterparts . From this observation , I propose the following thesis in analyzing the play : in the one-act play Trifles ' Susan Glaspell explores the gender differences of men and women in terms of the role assigned to them by society and their perception of morality and ethics
