Caucasian Americans , on the other hand , are a heterogenous population descending form German , Russian , Irish , Italian and other races . They had also been enslaved during the Trans-Atlantic trade . But after the usurp of power that occurred , Caucasian Americans were able to redeem themselves , as they were able to rule over themselves , strengthening state protection for its people . At present , such economic power has made their race one of the most superior races throughout the world - from the perspective of economics . Though both are sharing the same strategic location , African-Americans have been left behind . Robinson et .al (1994 ) stated that social relationships play a major part for the survival and dominion of a race . Social networks are referred to as the "quantity " of relationships while social support is used to refer to the "quality " or functional contents of the relationship . Both are working to nurture the country 's needs - resources , information and alliance . As these relationships are created , there was the creation of superior vis-a-vis inferior races . These social networks are of great importance since these facilitate the adjustment of an ethnic group within a major culture . Moreover , the receiving environment can either promote or impede the adjustments done by the receiving group
As for the African Americans , the social networks within the United States impeded their progress as a group . They have carried their norms since time immemorial and these have somehow contributed to slow economic progress . Even at present , racism and other human rights violations have been rampant , particularly for their group . In the past African Americans are always victims and this has been persistent even up to now .
