Trauma Stories In this I will research three novels and prove the strong relation between the writer 's personal experience and his writing style and the thematic aspect of his works . All the three novels - David Copperfield ' by Charles Dickens , Baa , Baa Black Sheep ' by Rudyard Kipling and The Glass Castle ' by Jeannette Walls - can be viewed as trauma stories . We can regard them as trauma stories due to two several facts . First of all they describe the tragic life of the main characters , whose life was marked by tragic events of

In this I will make a critical estimation of the above mentioned works . In the process of the critical analysis I will apply the methods of psychoanalytic literary criticism , which is particularly valuable for this research due to the fact that it establishes the link between the writer 's personality and experience and his literature product

First of all I 'd like to define the notion and the main aspects of the theory of psychoanalytic literary criticism . This theory can be defined as a type of literary criticism that is strongly influenced by the tradition of psychoanalysis and bears strong links to this theory in its concept , method , form and /or theory . Theory of psychoanalysis was originally created by Sigmund Freud and then further developed by his numerous followers . Psychoanalysis gave birth to numerous other theories , which gradually generated into a powerful and rich interpretive tradition (Blat Shahar , 2004

It should be mentioned that the tradition of application of psychoanalysis to literature analysis was first implemented by Freud himself . We now his numerous works , devoted to the investigation of the links between the psyche of authors and main features of their characters , explanation of various narrative mysteries and creation of new concepts in psychoanalysis

Psychoanalytic literary criticism can have various objects . It can be the psychoanalysis of the author through the plot , language or even structure of his literature work . The other possible object of the psychoanalytic literary criticism is some particularly interesting character or several characters , analysis of which can provide us with valuable information about the author and his spiritual world

This application of psychoanalytic literary criticism has much in common with psychoanalysis itself and even applies the same methods and the analytic interpretive process , which was described in the Interpretation of Dreams ' by Sigmund Freud . However , psychoanalytic literary criticism is not restricted to the analysis of the author-characters relations
