Given a specific case wherein someone applies for a new job and is asked to submit three letters of recommendation from trait theorists Gordon Allport , Hans Eysenck , and Raymond Cattell , it is presumed that these theorists will gain different perspectives and viewpoints regarding the Type A personality . This personality is depicted by traits , such as being strong-willed , determined , stubborn , extraverted and

dominant . How would Allport , Eysenck , and Cattell each define the Type A personality of the applicant

Allport 's definition of trait and personality stems from the characteristic behavior and thought that we exemplify , given a specific incident or episode in life . He defines personality as the dynamic organization within the individual of those psychophysical systems that determine his unique adjustments to his environment (Webster , 2004 slide 10 . By `dynamic ' he pertains to the type of personality that constantly develops and changes , as influenced by radical changes that happen to our lives . By this , it is my presumption that the recommendation letter that will be written by Allport would point to the Type A personality as the person 's cardinal traits . He might say that the traits were developed due to the important circumstances in his /her life that encouraged the growth of that trait . As he stresses more on individuality , then I presume that Allport 's letter will support and recommend the person , especially that that person shows traits that are unique and individualistic . Allport would stress in the end that the person has the right to be accepted because of individuality , but also stresses that that person has the possibility to change given the circumstance

As for Eysenck , who stresses that the three-factor (PEN ) theory are composed of the following (1 ) introversion vs . extraversion (2 ) stable vs . unstable , and (3 ) psychoticism vs . socialization . then it is most likely that Eysenck will define the Type A personality as a super-trait E (extravert , lower-trait N (neuroticism , and a super-trait

(psychoticism . From here I would guarantee that Eysenck would stress that the person has a trait that is generally extravert , stable and conscientious , which are good and idealistic for someone in a job Eysenck would , therefore , recommend that the person be admitted to the job because his /her biological qualities produce traits that are good for a job

As for Cattell , I believe that he would also define the traits as `stable traits , just like Allport . However , Cattell defined personality as that which permits prediction of what a person will do in a given situation (Webster , 2004 , slide 13 . This means that unlike Allport who described the personalities as the effect of the environment , and Eysenck who described it as the effect of some `biological underpinnings , Cattell would probably define Type A personality as one that stresses the following personalities : first interpersonally cold second , intelligent third , emotionally stable fourth , dominant fifth , not impulsive sixth...
