[Name of University] ABSTRACT

This focuses on establishing the need for a comprehensive and uniformed pre-deployment training proposal for Peacekeeping forces or Civilian Police recruits for humanitarian missions . The mission sample for this is the current conflict in Darfur , Sudan . Our subjects examined were the Peacekeeping forces and Civilian Police who have been deployed in previous UN missions in Kosovo , Bosnia , Herzegovina , and Rwanda . The method used was primarily data analysis from previous UN assessment reports , news reports and relevant clippings . Culled out from all the research materials are outline suggestions on how to proceed with the establishment of the pre-deployment training of Peacekeeping forces and Civilian Police recruits from multi-country members of the United Nations

I . Introduction

Thesis : The Ongoing Conflict in Darfur requires an immediate contingent for well trained Peace keepers or Civilian Police to neutralize ongoing large scale genocide

Questions : How well trained are the individual representatives from member nations of the UN peacekeepers ? Are they equipped enough for deployment to Darfur ? How are these individual peacekeepers trained by the member nations ? Is there a current synthesized or simulated training being provided by the UN before deployment to the target communities

This seeks to present and propose a list of recommendations for a comprehensive training program for UN recruits for deployment as civilian police /peacekeepers or as trainers of would-be civilian police in areas where there is ongoing armed conflict or post armed conflict transition . To further elucidate the purpose of this and immediately put in context the objective and recommended training activities , a real-time ' area or region currently in conflict will be simultaneously discussed . The ongoing conflict in the Darfur region of Sudan will be our primary basis of evaluating the viability of the proposed training program

Rationale

When human transgressions escalate to a level such as the one that is happening right now in Darfur , the need for a rapid deployment for well trained civilian police officers or Peacekeepers cannot be more emphasized . Usually , it is simply a matter of letting more thousands of vulnerable sectors of communities be brutalized and murdered or sending in the UN peacekeepers to neutralize the war zones and save thousands - sometimes millions of lives . The current trends of civil war and armed unrest when it erupts almost always results in genocide and ethnic cleansing . Such is the case of Rwanda in 1994[1] , Bosnia in 1992 to 1995[1] and Uganda...
