Introduction While the globalization brings in tougher competition for all companies the significance of hospitality management has risen higher than ever It so happened because the advancement of science and technology and its easy access to anyone has narrowed down the qualitative difference among the companies selling same products or services . Therefore , the quality of human touch in the proceedings is often turning out to be the deciding factor in gaining competitive edge in business . From this perspective , the hospitality department in a company now holds extremely important position , where every

member of it needs to be thoroughly trained to deliver the best possible human touch to the service offered to its client . Understandably , this kind of competitive edge commands a training program that would value the employees as "social and intellectual capital " and rise up to the belief that "the key to a firm 's success can be attributed to the effective management of its human resources (Huselid , 1995 . Because of its proven track of effectiveness , HRM now holds significant influence on the organizational proceedings (Dolan et al , 2001 ) with its various functional modules to suit specific needs of the companies . Out of them "High Performance Work Systems , commonly known as HPWS , which is an "effective combination of HR practices , work structures and processes that maximizes employee knowledge , skill , commitment and flexibility (Bohlander , 2004 , seems to be most suitable module of training for any hospitality department . Therefore , this examines the efficacy of HPWS as a tool for the training program in hospitality department before reaching its conclusion
Study Review : How HPWS Works
Settling between Work Flow and Support Technology , HPWS incorporates various principles of high involvement , besides linking various strategies to the system design . After that proper implementation of its strategies brings positive outcomes for both the company and its employees . All along it plays a positive catalyst among the various interrelated parts of the company system to achieve its goals Therefore , the basic placement of HPWS looks like below Figure - 1
The diagram above explains how HPWS works from the basement , where it links company strategy with Principles of High Involvement and then applies them to synchronize the work flow and technology , all the while giving equal importance to the goals of the individuals and the company to achieve the desired outcome , i .e , Overall Goal . In short , this package of strategy aims "create an environment within an organization where the employee has greater involvement and responsibility (Brown 2006 . According to the researchers , this new avatar of HRM started evolving in the late twentieth century "amid the difficult period then running in the United States manufacturing environment , when it felt the pressure of global competition and realized the need of remodelling their manufacturing process (Barnes , 2001 . Thus , HPWS came into being with a set of fresh practicality based on the nuances of human behavior
