In the current global business scenario , understanding cultural environments is critical to the success of an organization 's operations . This has been designed to scrutinize various facets of an organization which are closely knitted with the culture and will highlight cultural implications while formulating organizational and employee development strategies

Training and Development

Every organization needs to have well-adjusted , trained , and experienced people to perform the activities that must be done . As jobs in today 's dynamic organizations have become more complex , the importance of employee education has increased . When jobs were simple easy to learn , and influenced to only a small degree of technological changes , there was little need for employees to upgrade or alter their skills . But that situation rarely exists today . Instead , rapid job changes are occurring , requiring employee skills to be transformed and frequently updated , which is called employee training

Training is a learning experience in that it seeks a relatively permanent change in an individual that will improve the ability to perform on the job . Training involves the changing of skills , knowledge attitudes , or behavior . To differentiate between employee training and employee development , we should understand that training is more present day oriented as it focuses on an individual 's current job whereas employee development generally involves personal growth of the employee for handling future jobs in the organization (Cole Cole 1999 , pp 31-32

The most popular training and development methods used by organizations can be classified as either on-the-job training or off-the-job training (Joinson 1995 ,

The popularity of these methods can be attributed to their simplicity and the impression that they are less costly to operate On-the-job training places the employees in actual work situations . It is learning by doing . One of the drawbacks of on-the-job training can be low productivity while the employees develop their skills . Another drawback can be the errors made by the trainee while they learn Off-the-job training covers a number of techniques like classroom lectures , films , demonstrations , case studies , simulation exercises and programmed instructions
