Certain standards that were started by legendary have been used in classifying whether a certain piece is either a tragedy or comedy While comedic pieces are expected to make people laugh the inner intention of these works are usually to give emphasis on something wrong in society . It casts light on the dark side

of reality and society . It uses sarcasm and ambiguity as a literary devices . The play , The Country Wife by William Wycherley is one piece that embodies these standards of an effective comedy . On the other hand , the play Edward II by Christopher Marlowe is a good example of an excellent tragic work . It was able to show the people the tragedy of life in the royal courts and the paradox in living a life of royalty but not having real friends and people to trust . Just as it is with comedy , a tragedy casts light on a different aspect of a situation , giving emphasis on the bitter inside and not only the flowery facade
