Abstract

Tourism industry in Cypress is a key sector in the national economy and a vital source of economic growth and development for the country . This study examines critically the past and present trends in competitiveness performance of the sector , factors and policies driving the poor development of tourism in the country . The main focus will be the declining competitiveness of the sector in the recent years in

relation to strategic management plans that have been being used in the sector

This study will investigate the factors and the main causes for the loss of competitiveness and its resultant impacts on economy and employment in the country . Inclusive scientific Executive Opinion Survey amongst industry leaders , scholars , policy makers and other tourism stakeholders , will seek solutions and proposals for new strategies to put the industry back to high productivity levels and sustainable growth

Elements of tourism strategic planning have been given consideration to aid in establishment of all the possible causes for the current decline in the sector performance . Data collection analysis and eventual extrapolation will form the baseline for the whole process in establishing the best ways to tackle the current problem
