No other city in Ontario offered to help Toronto with its massive amounts of garbage , and this in turn led to the occurrence of the inevitable garbage problem . According to the contract they have signed , the agreement between Toronto and Michigan would cease to exist by 2010 . Having the Michigan issue on the agenda , the Canadian officials faced the return of the old garbage problem , so they decided to buy the privately owned Green Lane Landfill southwest of London . Trucks will begin to dump there in 2010 , when it 's no longer allowed to send it to Michigan landfills

Even though , it is supposed that Toronto won 't be able to avoid the garbage crisis for much longer . Although more land has been achieved -Green Lane Landfill- , better solutions must be found besides dumping garbage in other municipalities . There are several proposed solutions most notably being the stricter recycling policies and the controversial method of incineration -solid waste treatment technique which can potentially send gaseous emissions to the atmosphere-
