The plot of the story is shown of 1950s when Hollywood was still considered as the place for the sophisticated people . The story outlines various criminal issues that had their strings to the most

The story has three protagonists which belonged to the Los Angeles Police Department and had different ways to look at the crimes and therefore interpreted the situations differently One of them is Bud White who hates wife beaters . The other one is Vincennes who is in the transitional phase in recovering from the substance as well and the third one is Ed Exley who is very determined and wanted to make a name by providing his detective services as his father was also a detective

The book revolves around the murders which happened in an all night club . The shootout killed six people and an air of unrest grew all along the Los Angeles . People became very afraid of the situation . This case required high expertise and knowledge because it was also found that three blacks were arrested for this incident
