Paper Topic:

Thomas Sowell

The world is fast becoming a bless place . Cultures , races , beliefs and ideologies are blend together and interact because of the growing advances in communications . As elaborated in the essay of Thomas Sowell , the key to advancing lies in being able to interact with other societies similar to how globalization is idealized as the key to humanity 's progress . Culturally , globalization is said to have a positive effect as it has facilitated a greater international cultural exchange and promoted cultural diversity . Globalization ' according to Anthony Giddens , has created quite an impact on

multicultural relations that by exposing and infusing new cultures into established ones a new culture is created that can be shared by all people over the world (Giddens 2000 . The cultural effect of globalization is that it creates a positive atmosphere for different cultures and races to intermingle . The previous differences in culture due to social misunderstandings which result in bloodshed and violence can in theory be resolved in the advent of globalization through the creation of a new global ' culture that can be shared commonly by all people all over the world

It is interesting to point out that this model has not only happened in Africa but in most of the countries in South East Asia as well . While the wars in South East Asia have not been as well documented as those in Africa the Indonesian example and that of East Timor is a good example of an analogous circumstance borne out of the colonial ignorance of local customs . It comes as a logical suggestion therefore that if the colonists understood the different tribes and cultures and respected these before dividing up the new world amongst themselves then the face of history in Africa and Asia would be decidedly different . Perhaps a number of the deaths could have been averted and perhaps the new world would not be so behind in not only economic but also social development as well

One of the keys for development can be seen in the social cohesion model of Japan . In the same vein , the difficulties that India has been experiencing can be attributed to the fact that there are over two dozen different languages spoken in the region and many different religions and beliefs particularly in the more remote areas of India . In a country to even begin the process of development , there must be a certain social cohesion and will power for the people to be able to contribute to the success of the country . As such , having too many diverse classes , languages and beliefs...
