Okonkwo is not a better man than his father . Though his father , Unoka was not productive , poor , not as brave , and arguably a softy , Unoka did not made the same mistakes that Okonkwo did . If anything , Unoka made Okonkwo strive to be a better man . He did the opposite things that his father was known for . Okonkwo strived to be productive , wealthy courageous and violent . But his desire to be so much unlike his father

br became his tragic flaw . His actions led to his downfall . Okonkwo claimed his father was weak , maybe he was , but in the end , Okonko proved he is weaker by committing suicide

The conflict between the Igbo people and the outside world is the changes the outside world is bringing to the Igbo people . The Igbo people have long existed with their rich tradition , and then suddenly the white man comes along telling them that what they are doing is wrong . The Igbo people face the dilemma whether to adapt to the changes the outside world is bringing or to resist these changes in to preserve their traditions . The Igbo people were divided into groups that are willing to accept these changes and groups that are resisting it creating a conflict of their own
