The birth place of America 's most famous president Theodore Roosevelt 's commands respect and generates interest for many people . It is a typical New York brownstone in Manhattan 's most fashionable residential district . President Roosevelt called Teddy in his boyhood days was born in that house . The brownstone , house where he was born , is now a National Historic Site . Now it is declared as a museum dedicated to the life and contributions of the 26th President of the United States

The brownstone is at 28 E , 20th Street , between Broadway and Park

Avenue South , in Manhattan , New York , Roosevelt was born there on October 27 1858 and lived in the same house until he reached 14 years of age . It is understood from the records that the original house was demolished in 1919 . A commercial building was erected in that place . But once again the brownstone was built in 1923 with the exact plan of the original house which retains much of its old look and the same furniture which was actually used by Teddy Roosevelt . The old house was restored with the support of the widow of the late President and his two sisters Later in 1963 it was donated to National Park Service in 1963
