Avenue South , in Manhattan , New York , Roosevelt was born there on October 27 1858 and lived in the same house until he reached 14 years of age . It is understood from the records that the original house was demolished in 1919 . A commercial building was erected in that place . But once again the brownstone was built in 1923 with the exact plan of the original house which retains much of its old look and the same furniture which was actually used by Teddy Roosevelt .
