Let us start with Araby . Araby ' pertains to the an unnamed protagonist who feels infatuation . In the beginning of the story , the boy is innocent about life and love . Then the boy is approached by Mangan 's sister if he would like to go to Araby . When he asks why she cannot go with him , she gives reasons . Because he is eager to buy her something he goes alone . Then . he sees a saleslady flirting with two men and he associates what has transpired with him and the girl . In the end , he leaves with disappointment and without buying anything

The protagonist 's reaction to the girl are at once sensuous and spiritual he sees her as a virgin and a tempress . Araby shatters his romantic illusions giving a moment of insight ( Mellard 337 . He realizes that the covert offer is really an opportunity for them to go together . Moreover , this realization crushed him
