THESIS STATEMENT : Masculinity stands for a social where men are thought to be more powerful , skilled and strong compared to women (Hofstede 297 ) Its existence was very much illustrated in the two books But while Moby Dick showed male dominance over women by completely eliminating the existence of the latter , Uncle Tom 's Cabin represented women as smart individuals who were silenced by the already ongoing collective consciousness that men are

the only ones who do things right and thus , must be followed at all times

Moby Dick and Uncle Tom 's Cabin were both published in the 1800 , an era where male dominance is prevalent to the extent that decisions that are outside domestic realms are made only by men . Women 's place is only within the dwellings of her home . It is only men who expected to decide on the best plan of action to run their business , and though women runs the household , the final say on domestic concern still has to come from men or husbands for that matter . Even the very basic right that a citizen enjoys today like the right of suffrage was not granted to women then . Only men are allowed to vote because they 're the only ones perceived to be capable of deciding on public matters

This plight that women had was very well depicted in the two novels
