How do religious beliefs and sexuality interact ? Many human beings - of all distinctive backgrounds - are known to have this notion lingering in the back of their inquisitive minds , yet this common question remains unanswered . The catastrophic events and devastating trials narrated by Arthur Miller 's `The Crucible ' tell about the story of sexual repression , as well as religious dogma and the suppression of reason

The first was demonstrated through Abigail 's determination to continue

a one-way street ' affair , through the young girls performing acts of witchery in the woods , and through Elizabeth Proctor yearning to rebuild her marriage . Although ignoring the importance of Puritanism in the 1600 's , nothing stopped these rebellious female figures from pursuing their desires . To redeem herself and avoid possible punishment for committing acts of witchcraft , Abigail said , I want the light of God I want the sweet of Jesus ! I danced for the Devil . Abigail , a bold and manipulative character , uses her innocence and immature personality to achieve her aspiration of winning John Proctor 's heart . Although she is often found acting childish , she paves herself a path leading directly to the finish line in an efficient manner
