The Authors ' View on Terrorism

In his letter to the American people Ben Laden assert that terrorism is a radical Islamic response to American oppression and aggression against Islam and Muslims . According to Ben Laden the particular cause of hatred that breeds terrorism against Americans is its support to the Jews who have occupied the Palestine for the past fifty years with swarming oppression , despotism , killings , expulsion , offenses , devastation , and destruction . Ben Laden calls terrorism as a fight in the cause of Allah in retaliation to the attacks made against

them . It is a revenged of those who poured out their blood , or the sons of the widows , and those victims of atrocities perpetrated against Muslims with the support of the America

Comparing and contrasting Ben Laden 's view with the view of Stephen Hardley , Hardley view terrorism as a result of alienation from their societies , citing the case of 9 /11 hijackers . Hardley pointed out that these terrorist and many others like them are clearly alienated from their societies , which were unable to envision a meaningful outlook within their political system , which made them vulnerable to radical options . While both men recognized that terrorists are men with distinct qualities , they differ in their perspective about the motives in perpetrating terrorist act . Ben Laden saw a hero , faithfulness , and dedication behind terrorism while Hardley saw vulnerability deprivation , and alienation behind terrorism

Causes of Terrorism

For Ben Laden , the cause of terrorism is the American policy of supporting Israel in their occupation and usurpation of their land , and its continuous torture , killing , expulsion and punishment of the Palestinians . These atrocities on Islam and the Muslim according to Ben Laden warrants reciprocate action . He asserts that if they attacked they also have the right to attacked , if their village and towns is destroyed , they also have the right to destroyed , or if their wealth is stolen , they also have the right to destroy other 's economy , and who ever kills their civilians , they also have the right to kill civilians In other words the cause of terrorism is the Muslim perceived as atrocities committed against them particularly by the West

Hardley sees discontent as the fundamental cause of Terrorism . He point out that when people are deprived of their rights they became prone to terrorist recruitment , as they are also vulnerable to such option . In other words both Ben Laden and Hardley recognized that the cause of terrorism is injustice , oppression , and aggression . However , it appears that Ben Laden 's understanding of these causes is deeply rooted on real occurrences of these causes . His views seemed to be based on the feelings of the oppressed and in his sympathy on their plight , which is in contrast with the seemingly subjective view of Hardley , that the causes of terrorism are discontent , deprivation , and alienation and it is quite a narrow and unrealistic .
