The story revolves around a twenty something Ben Addison . He is a fresh graduate of Yale Law School living with his high school buddies as roommates . Ben s career is just beginning and seems very promising . Many high-pro law firms have already decided on hiring him . He takes a job working as a clerk to the Supreme Court Justice
On Ben s first day as a clerk for the Supreme Court Justice he unintentionally reveals the classified outcome of an impending Court decision . He leaks the result of a corporate merger from before . He tells the decision to Rick Fagan who claims to be one of Justice Mason s old clerks . Soon Ben finds out that Rick was just an imposter and was never a clerk for Mason . He only used Ben for the information Ben s information to the case helps one of the party sides to make millions of dollars . This situation puts immense pressure on Ben because it is mostly his fault . He realizes that this could negatively affect his career
At this point he has no choice but to ask his co-clerk named Lisa and other Washington D .C housemates Nathan , Ober and Eric for help . His friends who work at entry-level jobs enable him to insider access to the State Department , Washington news and the senator s office in an attempt to free Ben s future from the Blackmailer . Ben tries to seek revenge however he is forced into revealing the outcomes of more cases The plot thickens when greed tempts one of Ben s friends into siding with the blackmailer . From there on , suspicion encircles all friends and they find themselves battling each other . These deceptions and changing alliances threaten to damage their friendships , careers and even their lives . At the end it becomes impossible to empathize with Ben . He selfishly risks everyone s lives just to protect his own All the characters of the book are very well crafted . The most interesting character is the protagonist of the book Ben Addison who originally belongs to Newton , Massachusetts . Ben and his colleague , Lisa Marie Schulman are conscientious , perfectionistic and very sharp individuals . They experience a very intense chemistry for each other I particularly enjoyed the book...
