Since the beginning of civilization , man has always indulged himself into games and activities . The magnificent game of tennis has it roots to centuries much before and there is still doubt on the exact point of evolution of the game , as the word tennis is associated with the town `Tinnis ' of the Egyptian frontier and also the word racquet is

suppose to come from the Arabic word `rahat . However the noted history of the game is credited to a version of rough handball played by French monks during the 12th century . The game played actually relayed the idea of two players hitting the ball to one another

By the 13th century the game of tennis was well versed and slowly the game was transformed from bare hands to gloves , to paddles and in the end racquets by the 15th century . However the racquets resembled a squash racquet and were very stiff due to its structure . The game had its share of religious objections but still the game had well spread on to England by then , and the game was gaining a lot of popularity with time . The English King Henry VII and King Henry VIII played substantial part in the uplifting the game and made decisions of having lots of courts in the country .
