Telomeres and Their Effects on Cloning
Running head : TELOMERES Telomeres and their effect on Cloning (Your Name (Your institution 's name (Your Instructor 's name Abstract The main purpose of this essay is to identify the effects that telomeres can have on successful cloning . It is seen that the clones made from Animals did not go on to live their full age . What was the main reason behind the death of these animals is still under debate . How large a role do telomeres play in the process of cloning is the main theme of the essay . This essay

also points out what a telomere actually is and how is the process of cloning carried out
Telomeres and their effect on Cloning
Telomeres
The word Telomere ' is derived from the Greek word Telos ' meaning end and meros ' meaning part . A telomere is a region at the end of the chromosomes which is made of repetitive DNA and plays an important role in the stability as well as the replication of cells . It is a part of the cell that prevents the destruction of the ends of the chromosomes It is found in all the eukaryotic animals and in a few Prokaryotes . This enzyme is known as the Telomerase reverse transcriptase
Function
The main function of the Telomeres is to prevent premature replication termination of the chromosomes . The Telomeres also act as a cell division limiters . The Telomerase shortening mechanism is responsible for shortening the lifespans of animals by limiting cells to a fixed number of divisions . Telomerase...
