In today 's modern world , television is one of our necessities . Along with our needs with this technological device as our way of being informed to many things around us , children also rely on television Right now , more children are staying home to watch television rather than going out with their parents and friends . Most of the time , they are more satisfied being alone in their room to watch cartoons or anything on television rather

than burning their calories by walking or running in the park . That is why more children today are obese because one of those reasons is their way of life such as watching television whole day . By seeking important relevant materials regarding this issue we are able to know the reasons and effects of television watching to children

According to studies and guidelines for children psychology , during the first 2 years , a critical time for brain development , TV can get in the way of exploring , learning , and spending time interacting and playing with parents and others , which helps young children develop the skills they need to grow cognitively , physically , socially , and emotionally (Gavin 2005 . When children reach their second year , they become more aware in their environment . By watching television , their vision and psychological relativizations starts to created new ideas They tend to acquire more things in television rather than from other environmental aspects especially when they are feed by the television everyday . It was good in a certain way but there are also bad impacts of watching television especially if it was an excessive watching . Because children at their critical period has the easiest way to acquire knowledge from any source , they tend to watch violence and indecent programs that not suitable for them as young audiences

Another is that , their health problem will start to emerge because they are not doing some exercises such as walking because their eyes are intact on their television . There are lots of health problems that can determine by parents to their children for having excessive watching

Health experts have long linked excessive TV-watching to obesity - a significant health problem today . While watching TV , children are inactive and tend to snack . They 're also bombarded with advertising messages that encourage them to eat unhealthy foods such as potato chips and empty-calorie soft drinks that often become snack foods (Gavin 2005

According to American Academy of Child and Adult Psychiatry , students who watch television more often than the usual can give negative impacts to the children such as having lower grades in school , they tend to read few books , they have less exercise , and they became overweight . Because of this , parents should rather push their children to play outdoor games than leaving them watching television all day long .
