T1 carrier , which is also termed as DS1 , is a dedicated phone connection that supports the data at a rate of 1 .544 Mbits per second . The T-1 line usually consists of 24 individual channels with each line supporting 64Kbits per second . Therefore , the T-1 carrier can be configured to carry both data and voice traffic . Telephone companies commonly use it and Internet Service Providers (ISP ) to

provide both the data and voice services in the individual channels in what is termed as the fractional T-1 access . Bell Labs devised it in 1960s , and it was successful because it was able to support digitized voice transmission at that time .
