This is an alarming statistic considering that teenagers are not really as equip to handle the responsibility of parenthood as opposed to those who will have children at the right age and time when they have already settled down and they are capable of providing for all the needs of a

Despite the large number of teenage pregnancy , a lot of studies have shown its significant decrease in the 90 's to the present time . Teen pregnancy rates are at their lowest level in 20 years and teen birth rates are at the lowest level ever recorded in the United States Despite the recent good news , the United States still has the highest rates of teen pregnancy , birth , and abortion in the fully industrialized world . There are still nearly half a million teen births each year . The overall declines have masked high rates that exist for certain teens defined by geography , age , and racial or ethnic group . For example , in some states , the teen pregnancy problem has gotten worse in selected communities . Between 1995 and 2010 , the number of girls aged 15-19 will increase by 2 .2 million . If current fertility rates remain the same , we will see a 26 percent increase in the number of pregnancies and births among teenagers (Flanigan , 2001 . This indicates that the campaign against teenage pregnancy is not really being advocated properly in all places . It just so happens that there is a decrease for the past few years , but the trend in studies show that if we don 't do anything about this problem now , it will inevitably get worse and numbers of teenage pregnancy is bound to increase

Despite the factors of how big a responsibility it is to have a child we can help but wonder , why teenagers today are still falling into the trap of being teen parents who are not yet ready to handle such responsibilities to be a parent ? There are a lot of factors to this problem and these factors can differ all around the world as cultural differences can draw different causes of teen pregnancy . Despite that we can draw the most immediate cause of teen pregnancy in the early involvement of our young ones in sexual intercourse

In the United States , teenagers begin getting involved in sexual intercourse during their teenage years . Current data also suggest that are slightly more than 5 percent of females and nearly 66 percent of males that have been sexually active by time they reach their 18th birthday .
