Although drinking seems to be a normal activity in our society , it is only meant to be for adults , or those who are over the age of 21 . For ideal culture this idea that only adults will drink is fine , but in real culture a problem actually exists . Teenage drinkers are becoming younger and younger everyday . Underage drinking is continuing to ruin not only their young lives but also the lives of those around them

Karnell and his colleagues analized

variance was conducted by using the posttest measure as the dependent variable and controlling for differences at pretest and the effects of gender and age in to assess intervention effects on HIV as well as alcohol-related variables If the variable was dichotomous , a binary logistic regression procedure used the measure at posttest as the dependent variable and the measure at the pretest , gender , and age as factors

The participants of the analysis were students with the median age of 16 years old . A intervention , while 336 in two schools were in the comparison group . The all (94 ) Zulu . About 75 lived with at least one parent , and the majority (75 ) had five or more people living in their household . The sample was nearly equally split between males (49 ) and females (51 Family income was not assessed directly in the survey instrument because it was determined that students would have difficulty accurately selecting their parents ' household income category . However , no significant differences were found between schools on social and economic status indicators such as level of parental education or number of people living in the household

Interestingly , no significant intervention effects were found on any of the alcohol-related behavioral outcome measures-frequency of alcohol use , and quantity of alcohol use , alcohol-related problems . Similarly no intervention effects were found on any of the mediating alcohol-related variables , including alcohol use self-efficacy and attitudes about alcohol (positive or negative . However , results showed an intervention effect on an HIV-related behavior after controlling for gender and age-alcohol use concurrent with sexual intercourse (Karnell et al , 2006

Morbidity and mortality

The heavy , inappropriate consumption of alcohol is associated with a variety of acute and chronic health problems . With regard to young people , levels of alcohol-related deaths associated with chronic disease appear to be very low . This condition is often alcohol-related . In addition , a small number of young people die annually from accidental alcohol poisoning

Of greater concern for this age group is the high incidence of accidental injuries and deaths among young people , which occur as a result of acute intoxication . Evidence indicates that a high proportion of accidental injuries involve people who had been drinking , and that many were intoxicated when they were hurt . Moreover , drinking continues to be involved with a substantial proportion of road traffic accidents Approximately 1000 people aged 19 or under die each year in road traffic accidents in US . Available evidence suggests that many of these deaths are alcohol-related
