Paper Topic:

Technology and Managers

How have technology and the Internet changed how managers conduct daily operations

The technology revolution has brought many changes to the way managers conduct their day and provide information to other members of the organization . With the level of technology that is available today as opposed to what was previously available , managers are able to communicate much faster with the other members of the team and coordinate the work within large teams more effectively and efficiently (Bennis , 2001 . The advances in communication technologies and all the new gadgets designed to ease to

work load and make people function for efficiently have also , however , created more and more demands of a manager today

Perhaps the greatest change that technology and the internet have contributed to regarding the manner by which managers conduct daily operations is with regard to the ability of managers to oversee larger work groups and to monitor even remote areas (House , 2004 . The internet bypasses so many traditional barriers which prevented managers from communicating efficiently and effectively with the rest of the organization . Daily operations now can be conducted via the internet and thus allow the manager to perform more tasks instead of the traditional method which required managers to travel to sites and conduct their daily operations

The ability of current technology and the internet to transmit reliable and accurate information has also changed the duties of the manager by effectively negating the need to be physically present at remote locations (House , 2004 . Managers of today can easily hold teleconferences with people all over the field and also perform all the daily duties required via one area , the office

With the information technology constantly developing and communication channels improving to provide faster and more reliable services , the duties of a manager will still constantly evolve to adapt to the new technologies that are being offered in to increase productivity even more . Tasks will become simpler to perform yet the volume will logically increase . There may come a point however where despite the level of technology the productivity will remain the same (diminishing marginal productivity , but for now , these current changes , such as the internet , are creating many changes in the way managers conduct daily operations
