A team is a group of individuals with a common goal and need to work together to achieve that goal . Nowadays teams have become more and more popular , be it at school - where classmates work together as a team on certain projects , or at the work place - where employees are assigned to certain teams in the hope to fully develop their potential . Teams play an important role . However , there is a big difference between calling a group of people a team and functioning as a team . This goes on to discuss briefly about team players and their characteristics as well as some of the features of building an effective team
Unlike in most marriages , very often we don 't get to choose the team that we work with . And so what we need to do is , make the most of the team that we have and emerge as a wining team . An effective team player should have a cooperative personality and must be willing to adapt to different situations . All changes must be taken in his stride At times he needs to be able to make compromises on certain issues and needs to look at the bigger picture , what is beneficial to the team and not to him . A strong team player is responsible and does not need to be supervised upon . He knows what is expected of him , and does not need constant management . Furthermore an effective team player needs to have an open attitude , be willing to listen to others , as well as accept criticisms , and be open to feedback . He needs to have an `us ' attitude rather than an `I ' attitude , and keep aside his ego , he needs to acknowledge his shortcomings and focus on how he can contribute his strengths to the team . Since we spend majority of the time together with the group that we are assigned to , we need to have a friendly yet professional disposition , minding to never gossip , abuse , insult or make fun of a team member - in short we need to be respectful of our team members .
