Racial Discrimination Subject Name Racial discrimination occurs when an individual is treated differently based exclusively on the color of their skin or their racial background Technically , this type of discrimination happens any time that a person is treated differently because of their race , but we tend to associate the behavior with the unequal , unfair , or poor treatment of those who do not share our specific genetic makeup . It is the very discrimination that launched the civil rights movement in the 1900 's , and the same behavior that continually plagues many

parts of the world today
Racial discrimination takes many distinctive forms . For some , the behavior surfaces in a hateful remark or the use of racial slurs . For others , discrimination appears in the form of a nasty stare or even violence simply because of a difference in skin color . Most commonly in today 's society we think of racial discrimination as an equal employment issue . Often people are not given the same opportunities at the work place because of their racial background . Furthermore , people suffer due to racial stereotypes when we judge others based on a mere lack of life experience or education . There was a time when violence toward minorities was accepted , and even worse , minority Americans feared for their jobs families , and at times , even their lives . Due to this unfortunate period in American history , there are a multitude of laws governing this terrible behavior
The most recognizable of these laws is the Civil Rights Act of 1964 This law made racial discrimination in places of public accommodation illegal , outlawing the unequal , unfair treatment of minority men , women and children across the country based solely on race . Title one addresses the voting rights of minority individuals , allowing all Americans to vote regardless of race or skin color . Titles three and four ed the desegregation of public schools and facilities . Title five deals with the presence of discrimination in federally assisted programs , and Title seven addresses equal employment opportunities (Ourdocuments .gov . The Civil Rights Act is lengthy and thorough in providing equal treatment to all Americans , whether white , black , or any other color of the rainbow
While racial discrimination does not happen as commonly or openly in present day society , there are still many people who harbor hatred for those who are different from them , and many who continue to accept this type of poor treatment of others . In spite of our history , individuals of every race continually experience racial discrimination . Today , a person might...
