Introduction

While the march of science and technology has made the earth a global village , yet the success of any collaborative venture still depends on one single humane factor like effective team communication , which facilitates the team members to synchronize their perception of the common goal and accordingly work in tandem towards its achievement . No wonder then , why the companies are giving more stress on building and

maintaining effective communication system in every layer of their organization to gain competitive advantage over other others . However it is easier said than to be done , because the success of longevity of teams in any organization depends on the vision and application of its leader - who must know how to make the most out of a team under her /his disposal . Therefore a leader too has to be equipped to reap the harvest of effective communication . The thrust on building effective team communication has become even more important with the advent of globalization , which has made the competition in every business tougher than ever . Therefore this explores the key areas of team communication , before reaching its own conclusion

What is Team Communication

Primarily it can be described as a process of information sharing among the members of a team , which encompasses every detail regarding the targeted goal and all intended actions towards achieving that goal Accordingly , the connotation of 'team ' differs from the concept of 'group , with its added characteristics . While a group is considered as "an expression of the needs and aspirations of the people who comprise them , teams are found in organizations , where it "emphasize the mutuality of interests between employers and employees where all members , not just managers , have means to influence work related decisions where there is open information and two way communication about organizational policies and practices and hierarchical differences are minimized in ways that encourage all to feel that they are full members working together toward shared objectives (Hackman 1998

Additional Characteristics of Teams

Three distinctive characteristics provide the hallmark of any company team and they are

It is a designed wing of the company : Teams are formed according to the directives of the management that aims to align its members vision and mission with company 's mission and vision

Each member has to have one or more specific responsibility for the specific outcomes and operations

Such teams typically exist in an empowering work context : Here the assignments flow from upward to downward - from core management to the lowest rung of employees via managers , where each one is empowered to 'do ' something towards achieving the goal /s set by the company

Understandably , it is the desired outcome that determines the nature and composition of a team , and they are best described as magnified human forms equipped with specific abilities to perform special tasks
