Teaching Mathematics
Basically , the construction of the bin needs skills in carpentry . For some , this skill is basic especially among boys . The carpentry works are fun but the carpenter also needs the skill in mathematics . This skill will be used especially during planning . The construction must be perfect in the sense that the necessary materials that need to be cut must be cut logically so that no material will be wasted . In most cases the materials available in the market are in standard sizes . This means that when you need to acquire five feet long

plywood , you must buy the six feet long since it is the only available in the market . For some instance , the remaining on foot will be wasted . Also the constructor must plan on which to buy like for the case of the paint where the available in the market are in the fixed volume like 1 gallon , 1 quart and etc . You cannot buy a 1 ? gallon of paint , you must buy 1 gallon and ? gallon of paint . We might think that there is no difference for that matter , but there is . The price has differences . Like for the case when you buy two ? gallons of paint , there is a difference when you buy a 1 gallon of paint than buying two ? gallons
In constructing the bin , the students must cut first the three 3 ft . X 6 ft . plywood into half sizes to obtain six 3 ft X 3 ft plywood . We need to have six 3 X 3 ft plywood , since a cube has 6 surfaces . This will take up to 15 minutes since each cutting takes 5 minutes . Then the edges of the material will be grooved to serve as a joint . This also will cause the dimension of the box to be exactly 3 X 3 X 3 ft . Note that the thickness of the material will add up to the dimension of the box
The joint that was made will make the bin stronger . Then the edge of one of the plywood (the thickness part ) and the edge of the other plywood will be applied with epoxy and be braced for fifteen minutes so that the binder will attain its maximum strength . This process will also be done on the other two sides . After the two seams are bind , they will be applied with an epoxy and be connected together , and the process will be done on the bottom of the bin . All in all the process takes 30 minutes since the two seems can be done simultaneously . After that , the hinges and the latch will be put . This will take 20 minutes and all in all the process of constructing a bin will take 1 hour and 5 minutes
To determine how long the process will take over , the student must note that there are processes that can be done simultaneously . Like in the application of the epoxy , the student can apply on two seams and not wait for the other...
