Although the position of the Catholic orthodoxy , arguably the most dogmatic and centrist of Christian institutions , on the matter of evolution has moved significantly towards acceptance , this has done little to affect resistance towards the teaching of evolution in educational institutions

Anti-evolutionist pundit Do-While Jones (2002 ) opines that resistance towards evolution has less to with conservative doctrine and more to do with the political economic realities of text book publishing . Rather than cater to a desire

for balanced and bipartisan representation of the evolution debate within the curriculum and risk the ire of the National Center for Science Education , many text book publishers avoid writing about evolution /creation entirely . This effectively sets back any progress on the issue regardless of whether such progress favors or opposes creationism

Students on the other hand , present interesting challenges insofar as developing their understanding of how scientific theories are developed and originated . Hassard reports that while students are receptive to applying evolutionary theory to a horse , the homo sapiens species is still given special regard , whether the student in question is Muslim or Christian .
