EFFECTIVE TEACHING

With the public eye so acutely focused on the performance of the students and the teachers , these are stressful times in education . It is imperative that teachers should grow professionally and meet the current challenges of education in to increase student achievement and bring about true educational reforms

While teaching a new concept or skill to `below average ' and `above average ' students it is essential to share assessment information to ascertain the progress of the student and to guide decision

making about curriculum and instruction . Daily review is mandatory so as to identify expected accomplishments , to state the requirements of each accomplishment , to let the student know how performance will be measured and why , to provide frequent and unequivocal feedback about how each pupil is performing , to underline the consequences of good and poor performance . Daily review effectively helps to identify exemplary students and helps allocate available resources that can help people to become exemplary performers . Such review encourages students who need to troubleshoot their own performances and relates various aspects of poor performance to specific remedial actions . Pre-requisite checks such as assessment of student learning provide the learners with explicit instructional exposure and help them understand where they lie on the continuum towards achievement (Lamb , 2007 ) However , on a personal note I believe that mind mapping is a very effective method of teaching as it is scientific and can evaluate a student perfectly . Learning techniques encompass a variety of creative methods based on current theories and research . 1 . Suggestology is a powerful technique for tapping into the normally unused reserves of the mind and accelerates the retention and understanding of content . 2 . Group discussion explores all avenues of a particular subject and obtains the view of all students . 3 . Brainstorming is a technique to stimulate the creative ability of the pupils . 4 . Case study provides a written of a situation and provides the basis of studying a theory analyzing its implications and coming to various conclusions . 5 . Team presentation techniques foster ideal learning and review experience through team building . 6 . Learning games , which are creative and purposeful and creative are techniques meant to compliment the process of learning and facilitate retention of new material . 7 .
