The taming of the shrew , a play written by William Shakespeare , revolves around a husband 's efforts , done in mischievous ways , to reclaim his wife 's authoritative behavior into a loving and patient one . Petruccio one of the two main characters of this play , was portrayed at the beginning of the play as someone

willing to do everything just to have a rich and pleasant life . He choose to marry Katherine or Katharina (later called Kate , a daughter of one of the wealthiest men in the town called Padua . At first , Petruccio played a very evident gentleman who only wishes to marry a rich lady of his own wanting . But as the story progressed , things just changed and it became clear what Petruccio 's real intentions were , even if it was not really as bearable compared to his original plans

Petruccio 's interest in Kate 's wealth , which in the first place was his real reason of marrying her , became too absolute to determine his actions towards Kate and his enthusiasm to tame ' her . It was stressed out in the succeeding part of the play that what he really wanted was to have a wife that suits him , a wife who would later commit to his needs . It came to him that marrying Kate will not only mean having the chance to live a wealthy life , but also to have someone who would overbear his personality . Marrying a shrew like Kate defies his strong personality into the nature of finding himself in the middle of a cycle of making his wife ready and apt for him . His admirable wits to change Kate 's behavior and be her equal proved in the later part of the play that he had , somehow , proven that he was not just after money-making at all . His love for Kate that had blossomed throughout the story was reflected in his actions - that his being rude and his willpower in firing countering shots at her `shrewdness ' and suppression was just a concealment for his `true ' intentions to her as her husband
