Mahatma Gandhi and Rabindranath Tagore are two great leaders who contributed a lot towards the struggle for the independence in India The two leaders were not only popular in their country but also in many other parts of the world

Tagore was born into a priestly class , one of the highest classes in the Indian caste system . He was born in 7th may 1861 .He went to school at an early age but he was not very much

interested in it . He did not like being punished whenever he did something wrong in school . Later he proceeded in Britain where he joined London University studying law a course he never completed . When he returned back in India he was given the responsibility of managing his family vast estates

This role brought him closer to the common people . He developed interest in finding solutions to people lives . At this time he started a school where he taught the Upanishad philosophy . He also used the schools he opened to promote literacy among the lower caste in India as well as promoting good health through strengthening the social conduct of the people

Tagore was a great writer who has written many literary works including poems , novels , plays songs and many others

He is even accredited as the only person who has written national anthem for the two countries , that is India and Bangladesh nation anthems . He used literature to inspire the people of India during the struggle for the independence . To him literature was a tool for political and social mobilization allowing people in India and other nations to be aware of the things that were happening in India at that time and make the colonial power to take responsibility of its action (Tagore , R1916

Tagore participated in freedom movement in his own way which was described as sentimental and visionary . Due to his various contributions he was in different occasions awarded as recognition of his contribution in various areas . Some of the awards include the Nobel Prize in literature , an honorary doctorate of literature and knighthood from the king of England
