Methodology

The proposed study seeks to find out whether the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS ) pose an adverse effect on the third-grade students of the subject school . As the youngest group to take the state-imposed examination , these students will be provided with survey questionnaires for them to answer in to

determine the levels of anxiety that they are likely to get before taking the TAKS examination These questionnaires shall be administered with the aid of the researcher so as to ensure that all questions and the corresponding answers to the questions will be explained well and understood by the students . The data will then be interpreted and contrasted against the study 's hypothesis to arrive at well-founded conclusions

Sample

A for the school year 2006-2007 will be assessed for the study . To further find out if gender is a significant factor in the study , 100 boys and 100 girls shall compose the sample population . The students will be selected randomly and an informed consent will be obtained from the parents of the participating children . To ensure confidentiality student names will be removed before data entry and will not be reflected in this study 's report . School personnel , teachers , parents and others who will be involved , directly or indirectly , in the study will be asked not to disclose any information that may result from the study . Parents , particularly , will be provided with their children 's individual assessment though since they play a crucial role in stress debriefing of their children

Instruments

1 ) In collecting relevant information , the study shall adopt a survey questionnaire similar to the Perceived Stress Scale developed by Cohen et al (1983 . The questionnaire that will be employed , however , is tailored to fit to the needs of the study . It consists of 10 items with a 5-point Likert response scale format where the student will choose from pre-defined responses which will best answer the questions , viz

0 Not at All /Never

1 Almost Never /Very Little

3 Sometimes

4 Fairly Often /Quite a Bit

5 All the Time /Very Often

The questionnaire will contain questions that emphasizes on anxiety and stress related towards taking the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS ) test

2 ) To determine the possible correlation of the TAKS test and anxiety and stress , the study needs to look into TAKS test result of third grade students sampled in the study . To obtain the record , the proponent of the study shall present this research proposal to the school principal Emi Gonzales (CISD , n . d , to arrange for authorization to look over the documents
