Convention of Citizens for a Greener Planet

It 's a great pleasure to talk to all of you in this annual convention telling how important our environment even though we are engaged in a changing world . People now days are very busy in making money to survive and to live . Most of the country is taking advantage to sustain the needs of the people . But let us consider the rational on the idea of what is sustainable development

From 18th to 19th century the word sustainable comes from the forest Specifically wood

is the driving force in the economy . Wood heated homes , built homes and factories , became furniture and other articles of manufacture , and the forests that provided the wood were central to idealistic prose and ideas . Forests were best harvested from an economic standpoint using clear-cutting techniques . This mean that the loggers will cut the tree and after clearing will replace by another tree . The idea of this was simple , if enough trees were planted to replace the wood provided by the trees that were harvested every year , and the growth rate of the entire forest was scientifically monitored to ensure this happened , and then the forest would be sustainable . It would always grow enough wood fiber to replace the wood fiber lost to harvesting From the original idea , sustainable means that as a resource is used , it is replaced by growing additional amounts of the resource

But let me tell you a bout the collapse of the Ancient Eastern Civilization . The collapse of the Eastern Civilization is assumed the population 's used of their environments . It showed that if a society uses its resources at quickly enough , if the resources refill slowly enough , and if the resources become in short supply that the society continues to use the resources quickly enough then the resource will go extinct and the society will crash

One of the result of the fall of Eastern Civilization is due to environment overuse can be extremely sudden consequently a civilization can be headed for a collapse even when the population appears to be growing steadily . It is also possible that the Polynesian population on Easter Island experienced a collapse because of overuse of their environment . There have been many proposed causes environmental overuse , cannibalism , disease , war , slave trade , environmental disaster such as a hurricane , etc . There is some archeological evidence that trees on Easter Island were particularly slow growing (based on the species of trees , the fertility of the soil , and other factors .The use of the trees to build and transport the Moa can also add in the fall of the eastern civilization

Another example of this is the Deforestation in the Amazon . The Amazon is now a major problem in when it comes to sources of pollution . Rampant burning and deforestation , mostly at the hands of illegal loggers and of ranchers , release hundreds of millions of tons of carbon dioxide into the skies each year . Brazil now ranks as one of the world 's leading producers of greenhouse gases , thanks in large part to the Amazon , the source for up to two-thirds of the country 's emissions

According to Daniel Nepstad (2004 ) Its not the lungs of the world It 's probably burning up more oxygen now than its producing ' An American ecologist who has studied the Amazon for 20 years

The hardest part of using the resources is that , there are many resources that are not tress like iron ore , oil that cannot grow . If there will be no oil , still the humanity must survive with the civilization for another 1000 years . We need to heat our homes and fulfill many of the purposes that now oil fulfill

The word development is used in the expression of the sustainable development . The first world countries like United States are being challenge about the new standard of living . All of the wealth of a nation could then be used to raise the standard of living and well-being of all the people within that society . The attractiveness of this model to the poor people of the Third World is obvious . It promised masses of people a significantly better way of life

It was believed that a civilized world had to do was to major the economic drive of capitalism and just like a real pump , when enough dollars were inserted into an economy , the economy would take off . This would eventually result in a better standard of living , a developed rather than a developing society , and a world safe for democracy and capitalism . Based on this perception , the poor would be much better off in the long run by embracing democracy and capitalism . This will ease the poverty and suffering of the poor country and make the world more equitable for the human being
