In 1930s paved the way for more positive and fast developments in swimwear giving a new look for women . staple ' which was designed as a skirt above the knee giving a shoulder line around the neck , similar to the design of an apron also became popular to improve the figure of women giving still more neat and appealing look to swimwear . Rubber suits were also in great demand with smooth finishing and knitted fabrics which gave a beautiful look for a woman in swimwear . Designing of swimwear on rayon , silk , linen also became a fashion trend in these years . In 1940s instead of rayon , silk and linen , cotton . sharkskin and rayon were used for swimwear . Also synthetic fibres such as Celanese rayon , satin Lastex and nylastic began to be used instead of natural fabrics .
