agreed to come The night is balmy , with just a hint of moisture in the air , as though it might rain anytime , but we have been standing in this line for more than an hour and the movie is still more than an hour away . I don 't even like horror movies , but he had to come . Some nonsense about the best horror movie director ever coming here to Nashville , to this decaying old theater near the campus of Vanderbilt University . If he wanted to go out tonight , why didn 't we go out to a nice dinner or maybe dancing I think there was a play we could have seen , but instead , I 'm stuck here in line behind the tattoo-covered bruiser chicks from one of the local roller derby teams and the weirdo who wants to talk about snuff films as art . Have you ever tried to make small talk while waiting in line with strangers for two hours ? Ugh . I just really want to take a nap and get something warm to drink , a nice espresso maybe , but Steve , my sometimes boyfriend , wants to see the midnight showing of whatever this new zombie movie is

To make matters worse , most of these people are freaks and don 't even know it . Like the roller derby chicks in front of us . They try to act like they are so bad ass , all tattoos and attitude , but the big one with the big mouth , has little bunny foo-foo tattooed on her leg . Yup that makes me real scared of you . Your big mouth annoys me as does your incessant need to call over everyone you have ever met and let them in line in front of you . Good grief , I 've been here for an hour and now I 'm farther from the door . How does that work ? Oh , look , the new guy at the back of the line decided to come in costume . Does anybody really do that ? I mean , anybody who isn 't 7-years-old or a his makeup looks pretty good . That may be the best fake blood I 've ever seen . It looks dried and clumpy in all the right places
