The classical period of Greece was the highest peek of their civilization . The Greek society was composed of the Athenians and Spartans . The Athenians used logic and democracy in their lives while Spartans practiced military and brute strategies . They encountered the Great War with the Persian invaders but because of their combined strength , they defeated the vast army of the invaders . The era was considered the flowering of philosophy . It was the time when they started to search for truth using logic and reason . They were beginning

to disbelieve that lighting was created by Zeus or that tsunamis was the anger of Poseidon . They started to uncover the mysteries of the universe . They were artistic and invented drama

The classical period was recorded by Herodotus who is the father of history . He tried to record the events during the classical period through memory and story telling . It was quite hard to recall because he only used memory for the basis of his recording . His records of history were passed down with the use of story telling . He is the first oral historian in history . The second historian that came about was Thucydides . He recorded the Peloponnesian war through his own presence of the events . At the later part of the Classical Period , the tension between the difference of the Athenians and Spartans grew . The will later talk more about the Peloponnesian war
