Belonging in a liberal country , the freedom to practice a person 's religious preference is supported by the government by allowing for holidays that are dependent on the religion 's celebration . As in the Christmas holiday for the Christians , the Jewish people celebrate Sukkot . It may be considered as the counterpart of Thanksgiving Day in their religion

The Jewish celebrate Sukkot in commemoration of the 40 years the Israelites spent in the desert when they were freed from bondage in the

It means the Feast of Tabernacles from the experience the Israelites had in their travel to the promise land where they had to live in temporary home or tabernacles .
