The ending leaves a hanging query for all the readers whether the main protagonist 's act of

suicide gave her the liberty that she manifests to obtain or resignation to her worldly desires and dreams . Her suicide confirms as her final escape for emancipation from her husband and children , an unusual end for her desire to find the ultimate `awakening
As the main character Edna find solitude in the near end of the story she managed to commit the act of suicide as her escape route from self-betrayal .
