Student Expression

An essay review about Student Expression

The establishment of the First Amendment by the Founding Fathers defined the scopes and limitations of civilian rights . Limited though they may be , the First Amendment clearly stated the four cornerstones of these civil rights . These are the freedom to choose a religion , freedom of speech , freedom of expression and the right of the people to petition the government for redress of grievances

Civil rights are generally applied to the people living in certain nation . They are expected to abide by the rules and laws regulated

by a body or a council and are also expected to fully exercise their rights as stated . Rules are not breakable to suit one 's convenience Punishments are carried out for rule-breakers in accordance to the severity of their violation

Likewise , establishments such schools have rules to be implemented on their students . As a second home , the school 's duty does not merely focus on the academic growth of a student , but also on the emotional spiritual , physical and social growth . School rules and regulations are oftentimes questioned because they contradict or clash with the student 's rights as a citizen

Students do not lose their rights as citizens whether in or out of the school 's premises . Their right to express in any form of speech writing , emblems , banners and other modes of communicating their ideas and beliefs as a free individual , privately or publicly are well recognized by the law . But how can school rules be implemented on a student if the student will reason out that it violated his or her rights as persons ' under the Constitution

A school authority may be compared to a ball juggler . There is a struggle between the balancing of school rules and the student 's rights as a citizen . It is not an easy juggling act . However , the students should take a part in this balancing act . As students they should be well aware of their rights as well as their responsibilities to these rights

School authorities may be sometimes over-bearing in terms of promptness and strictness in following school rules . But they should equally respect the rights of the students under the law . It can be clearly understood that school authorities are placed inside a these halls of learning , not just a trophy to be displayed at but as good model for the students

It is a question of when and where to draw the line between these rules so as not to have any clashes . Respect should be the set boundary for these rules to avoid future collisions . Justice and reason should always prevail in times of confusion , whether to follow a school rule or one 's right as a person

And finally , we should well remember that nothing beats a calm and clear thinking head in settling a difficult task...
