Stress is a normal response of our body from life stressors that are changing our environment around us . In to maintain stability , our the body is constantly adjusting to its surroundings . When a physical or mental event threatens this equilibrium , we react to it . This process is often referred to as the "fight or flight response " We prepare for physical action in to confront or flee a threat . Normally , when you face a situation that you perceive as challenging , your body automatically goes into overdrive , engaging the stress

response . Our experience of stress is generally related to how we respond to an event not to the event itself

Life stressors that are identified as the main causes of stress can be classified as internal or external . An internal stressors are self induced that may be caused by our own thoughts and feelings such as fears , uncertainty , attitude , and unrealistic expectations . Fears can be things such as the fear of flying or heights , or more subtle apprehensions like speaking to a group of strangers at a party Uncertainty can be stemming perhaps from a looming restructuring at the office or waiting for medical test results . Attitude can be a person of having a negative view of the world in and of itself can be stressful since you create an unpleasant environment in which to live . Unrealistic expectations can be a perfectionist or controlling personality that leads to unnecessarily high stress levels

External stressors are positive and negative events in the world around us or any situation that require us to adapt to changes such as major life changes , environment changes , unpredictable events , family matters , workplace situations , and social events . Major life changes these changes can be positive - a new marriage , a planned pregnancy , a promotion or a new house . Or they can be negative - the death of a loved one or going through a divorce . Environment , these stressors could include a noise disturbance , such as a barking dog , or light disturbance , as from a billboard across the street . Unpredictable events , this category could be an increase in monthly bills , an uninvited houseguest or a pay cut . Family , these could be an occasional spousal spat , a teenager who refuses to cooperate or a nagging mother-in-law that contributes to stress . Workplace , these could be an overwhelming workload or an impossible boss . Social , these could be a blind date or making a speech to a room full of co-workers

Stress can affect your health without being aware of it . Some of its symptoms and signs are sometimes misinterpreted to illness . Stress affects mind , body , and behavior in many ways the signs and symptoms of stress vary from person to person , but all have the potential to harm your health , emotional well-being , and relationships with others . The effects of stress on our mind are , problems with memory , difficulty making decisions , inability to concentrate , shortened attention span confusion , repetitive or continual thoughts , misunderstanding of what others tell you , poor judgment...
