Strengths and Limitation
Running Head : Qualities of a Group Leader Name Course Tutor University Date My role as a group leader has exhibited a couple of strengths and weaknesses and the positive thing is that I can always take the former higher and can work on eradicating my weaknesses . One of my strengths is the possession of good communication and interpersonal skills . I am able to pass information to all the members of the group without difficulty I also encourage participation of group members thus giving freedom of expression to all

members because everyone has a particular skill that they are good in . Additionally I also have organizational skills enable me to align my group members as well as resources towards results . This gives every group member a sense of direction and progress towards the set goals
I appreciate the diversity that defines most of my group members attributes and have made it a duty to understand that vices like sexism classism , and racism if not addressed affect the group members negatively (Haley-Banez , L , Brown , S Molina , B ,1998 . My accountability also leads to focusing on results and achieving the goals created for the group . As a group leader I strive to have a learner 's attitude so as to be knowledgeable since there is a lot I need to learn so that this knowledge can assist me in the way I handle my group 's affairs . An example of this is the knowledge of the socio-political influences and how they can affect different categories of people (Haley-Banez , L , Brown , S Molina , B ,1998 . I seek advice from other professional groups in to learn , improve and adapt ways and methods that can bring about success to our professional group . I try to assist individual members realize their personal goals with regard to their individual strengths and limitations . I create an atmosphere where members support one another and feel free to talk about their feelings , challenges , problems etc . and thus look forward to be with the group
On the other hand my limitations are quite a number an example being the many times I have failed to delegate duties to each member in accordance to how much each can take and have ended up overburdened and less effective . I have lacked the patience and sensitivity especially when the progress has been slow . An example is where a member has a learning disability . Additionally , I have lacked confidentiality in the way I respond to ethical , gender or religious issues that face the group (Yalom , D , I Leszcz , M ,2005 ) Procrastination and lack of good follow-ups are some of the issues derail progress in my group . Another limitation is expecting too much from group members and not acknowledging my shortcomings
One way of increasing my effectiveness in response to my limitations is embracing openness and encouraging self-disclosure . This is because it breeds trust and confidence and demonstrates the universality of human problems hence making members feel free to open up and participate (Yalom , D , I...
