Strategic Human Resource Management , in its broadest sense , refers to the management of human resource at the strategic level in to organize them and utilize them in the most effective manner to achieve the organizational goals (Mathis and Jackson , 2006
While doing strategic management of human resource , a number of factors need to be considered . One of these factors is the culture , internal as well as external (global
First of all , let 's look at the internal culture and its impact on the strategic human resource management . Internal culture of organization consists of factors like routine ways of communicating , norms shared by individuals and teams , dominant values held by an organization , guiding philosophy for management 's policies and decision making , rules of the game for getting along in the organization and climate of the organization . Each of these factors has a profound influence on the employee as well as organizational behavior (Methis and Jackson 2006 For example , let us take the routine way of communication . As we know that Strategic HR management is the subset of the overall strategic management . Suppose one of the strategic plans of an organization is to automate its processes . The way the employees communicate influences the strategic HR management related to the employee communication . In this case , if the employees are already comfortable with communicating with each other through electronic media such as email etc , automation would be to an extent appreciated . But , if the employees are not that much technology savvy , there are high chances that the resistance to the change would occur , thus in that case , the strategic human resource planning would be done accordingly , expecting a resistant behavior from the employees
Let us look at the global culture . Global culture refers to the elements of the culture external to an organization . If the growing trend in the industry , globally , is the team based work (as a project ) and those doing so are evidently reaping its benefits , provided that such approach is applicable in organization 's own context , the new Strategic Human Resource Management would definitely try to incorporate those components in their planning and strategies
