Story telling
STORY TELLING The art of story-telling is considered as one of the oldest art in the world . A story-teller would have something in mind when telling a particular story . It may be that the story-teller wishes to entertain his audiences or it may be because the story-teller wishes his audiences to learn from his mistakes and the like . Authors also vary from one another on the methods they employ when telling a particular story There are those who are using simple narratives while there are those who make use of extravagant ways

in telling their stories . This aim to analyze , compare and to contrast different methods employed in story-telling particularly the aims , nature , practice , and effects a certain story could have over their audiences . I would make use of three different stories as a means to achieve my results . I would make use of Anna Linzer 's Ghost Dancing , N . Scott Nomaday 's House of Dawn , and finally stories told on our own family
My family is not really a big fan of story telling . However , there are times that stories could not help but be told especially if triggered by something happening at the moment . Say for example a cousin of mine is crying her lungs out then my mother could not help but tell stories of my childhood . She would then go on and on telling how I used to cry in the same way when I was still a child . Another example would be during family reunions wherein one of my cousins would introduce a new girlfriend . The said introduction could result in a series of jokes and a story particularly that of a certain uncle of mine who (as my family said and claims ) was rendered a ladies man during his time . Stories about how many girls went after him would rush in as well as how he ended up marrying his wife . Those stories are like an heirloom of our family in that in every gathering one could not help but mention that particular story
At first I thought that the purpose of that particular story does not go beyond entertainment . However , as I grow old I realized that whenever they tell that particular story they would accompany it with series of sermons though in a very light manner . For example they would say that it is okay for you to have a girlfriend but you should focus more on your study thus in a way they are setting my uncle as an example for all of us and they are telling us not to follow his mistakes . In a way we are learning things without really having to go on with the experiences my uncle have had during his time . Thus , basically the stories told within our family serves different purposes such as lessons , and the like . Another major point is that the story told within our family does not make use of serious tones , rather when telling a certain story our family...
