Every year the world of Major League Baseball celebrates by way of the World Series . Every year the best teams and the best players come together to show the world who is the best . Legends are made , records are set and broken . The great feeling is understandable especially in the 21st century when not only Americans come to compete but other great players from other nationalities- it is truly fitting to call the victors as world champions

There can only be one winner to take

home the trophy . The team that trained the hardest wins . The most determined , gifted , and hardworking athlete contributes to his team 's success . But since 1988 serious allegation of doping by elite players cast a doubt on the assertion that the most dedicated and most passionate will emerge victorious . If it can be proven that baseball players - from the average MLB player to the elite - did use performance enhancing drugs then the awards and the records does not mean anything , all are heaps of rubbish that the fans will ignore

This will take a closer look at the effect of steroids in general and the impact it has on Major League Baseball , and the game considered to be America 's favorite pastime

There are different kinds of drugs that can be used to improve performance but the wonder ' drug is undoubtedly anabolic steroids - also commonly known as simply steroids . The illegal use of steroids has already reached crisis proportions in the United States . It is not only professional athletes who are using it but also teenage athletes who wanted to be popular in school and young boys wanting to impress everyone with their muscular frame

Anabolic Steroids or AS is a derivative of the male sex hormone testosterone . This hormone makes men who they are , the reason why they are more muscular than women and why they have huskier voices as well as whiskers . In short , machismo is the direct result of this hormone that naturally occurs in a man 's body . Imagine the effects if this can be synthetically created in the lab and then injected into the athlete

According to Patrick Lenehan , research done on the human testis revealed something unexpected . He said that in the nineteenth century a man named Betthold discovered that , .transplantation of testes into castrated roosters (capon ) led to the regression of the changes that occurred as a result of castration , namely the regrowth of comb and wattles and changes in behavior (2003

Others went on to that other scientists used these results to create a crude type of steroids and Lenehan wrote
