Paper Topic:

Statisic

It is a generally held perception amongst the public that the election polls carried out by governments is quite inaccurate to a significant extent most of the time . And the press is running about with quotes from it as though it were very authentic . These statistics are then often misquoted and used to give false images to the general public about issues as important as the election , in general

It should be realized that these surveys and poll results stand true only if the surveyors are honestly carrying out true random sampling . By

br true , I would like to imply that the researchers should not resort to convenience sampling or omit the steps to construct a true random sample . The failure of researchers to do random sampling has been repeatedly seen in history (Nathan ) True ' random sampling is done through a systematic process in which every object in the population has an equal chance of getting selected . Polls are generally inaccurate because they do not constitute a complete picture of the population i .e they are not representative of the entire population . For example , a poll on whether a new car design should be banned because of its danger to the environment may be placed on the internet . The placement of this poll influences the results a great deal . Placing this on the BBC website will mean that all types of news readers and international subscribers will be able to poll in . However , putting this poll on an environment conservative group 's website will have a very limited sample which will not be a good representative of the original sample of average thinkers

Thus failures as such are often the chief reason behind the failure for any poll to present the accurate results . Researchers often should decide how to pick the correct type of people for their polls so that their efforts will not be wasted by a homogenous sample answering their questions . In conclusion , the practice should be to have a heterogeneous sample for the polls through true ' random sampling
