Social movement on mental and physical health promotion among the youth Health concerns are always one of the major issues being dealt by governments in any country . The reason is obvious : enjoyment and outlook in life is , to a larger extent , dependent upon the condition of an individual 's health . If the majority of the population is healthy , it exudes an overall atmosphere of optimism (Loeber et al , 2003 . In the United States , there has been a close monitoring of the government to its youth population ages 15-24 . As in other western First

World countries , common problems such as drug and alcohol abuse , inadequate education , anorexia , child abuse , depression , and obesity , are being studied to curb the overall malady affecting America 's youth (______U .S Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs . March 2003 . The National Institute of Mental Heath (NIMH ) and even the National Institute of Drug Abuse (________National Institute on Drug Abuse and University of Michigan , 2006 , provide an overall picture of young American 's health . In general , as the data reveals , American youth is relatively healthy . But although they have an overall positive outlook with regards to their health , the spate of juvenile shootings in campuses and the Philadelphia statistics of one death per day are alarming notwithstanding (Patton Moon , 2000 . There are many factors contributing to this current condition , and the major being the approach or strategy given to control the past health problems of youth . Although there are new health threats among youths that have emerged , they are being closely monitored and the factors that contributed to their emergence have been more or less identified (Wiig , 2001 . Mental and behavioral diss , sexually transmitted diseases , tobacco use , and obesity , are some of the health problems identified . Although they are not comes to statistics to date (Wiig , 2001 _______OJJDP , Mar . 2003 . Most of deaths and hospitalization records fall heavily on indigenous sector which in effect tell , that low self-rating of health , hospitalizations and death are all linked to low socioeconomic status
The social movement entails that consciousness be raised that funds and efforts today towards this direction are not enough or substantive hence , a fresh look on government planning be instigated or instituted Private citizens can start to attain a level of consciousness that the American youth needs attention because they are the future leaders and the future constituents of a country (Ventakesh , 1997
